If the mite stays longer, they become bigger in size and you can see it as a black growth inside the dog’s ears. To get rid of the mite, dip a q-tip in the ear cleaning solution, and gently swab the inside walls of ear. This may cause your dog to squirm, but hold him down tightly and complete the cleaning process properly.

Another very important and often ignored task of maintenance is to do regular brushing dog's teeth. Some dog masters do not brush their dog teeth for months. Now try to imagine the condition of your mouth if you brush your teeth once in 3 months. So even if you have been ignoring this important job till now, you can start and be regular at cleaning your dog’s teeth from now onwards. The next thing to clean up in dogs is fleas and ticks. Ticks are harmful small bugs, they dig themselves into the dog's skin and they survive on your dog’s blood. You need to be very careful if you live near jungles or wood areas. Ticks are very common there. But in general, your dog is bound to be affected by ticks no matter where you live. So do regular checks for ticks because they easily hide themselves and cause a great deal of harm to your dog. Ticks are the carriers Lyme Disease, a disease that slowly destroys affected dog's joints and sucks out all his energy. Advanced stages of Lyme Disease cause such great pain in dogs that finally you have to put them to sleep yourself. So check often for ticks, search the most obvious areas where ticks may be hiding, such as under the collar or along the underbelly. When you find them, just pull it off with tweezers.

Fleas aren't as seriously harmful as ticks, but they are like a petty nuisance. The reason they need to be removed off your dog’s body is that if they persist, your kids run the risk of being infected by fleas. Also, other pets can be infected if your dog has fleas. Look for them under the fur, in the same places where ticks are found. The flea is dark in color and its size is nearly that of a rice grain. If you do find fleas in your dog’s body then contact your vet's office and ask about flea treatments.

Being the proud owner of a dog is something you cherish but this prize comes at a cost. You have to devote yourself and be regular at taking care of your dog , that is the only way to make sure that you will enjoy the company of your pet. Your duties start early in the morning when have to take the dog for a walk and then come back home to feed them the morning meal. This may take regular attention and you are required to have a fixed routine to be able to complete your duties towards your dear dog.

Daily bath is again very essential for your dogs because they have furry skin and they are always exposed to the dust and dirt outside your home so they run a high risk of catching flees etc and daily bath and brushing is very much required to make sure that these infections do not reach other members of the house. Then you need to be specially careful about giving the right food to your dog. There are a wide range of pedigree food packages available off-the-shelf today and you can buy them if you have a tight schedule, but the best thing to do(only if you can manage it) will be to prepare the meal for dog at home itself. You can give the dog bread and milk, which they eat very happily. For non-vegetarian dogs you can boil meat at home and give it to them without putting any salt or peeper on it. Never let your dog eat salt or sugar, this harms them much more and much quickly than you can imagine.

A good dog is the one with strong mind and strong bones. You need to provide freedom to your dog on a regular basis so he can do running around and get some exercise for his limbs. Exercise and jogging benefits the dogs us as much as it benefits you and me , so do not take a short-cut and do not act lazy when its time to take your dear dog for running in a park. Sitting Idle and not doing any regular physical exercise will definitely harm your dog's over-all strength, fitness and life span. To make sure your dog leads a long healthy and fit life, you have to set them free for at least half an hour per day in a park or some big open lawn where they can run around and play and get some exercise for their entire body parts.
